Day 11 ~ Cape Cod and Plymouth

On Day 10 We arrived in Boston to the appartment. The next morning (Day 11) we took an hour drive from Boston out to Cape Cod.

Here is our Apartment. We had the main and second floors.

The Beaches were packed. To top it all off you had to pay for parking. Overall we had a great time. We are a bit spoiled in the Pacific North West, we can go to some of our beaches park and walk the beach without seeing a soul for miles.

 On the Way back we made a pit stop in Plymouth to see the Mayflower 2 and Plymouth Rock.

It's really cool to see a part of our history that we hear so much about.

Day 10 ~ Newport

On our way to Boston we stopped in Newport Rhode Island to see one of the gilded age's grandest houses; The Breakers. This house was built and owned by the Vanderbilts between 1893 to 1895. It was primarily used as their summer home.

The Breakers has 70 rooms and is approximately 65,000 sq ft. Plenty of room to have guests and hold parties.

In 1948, due to the income tax and the death tax and other financial complications, the house was leased and was eventually sold to the Preservation Society of New Port and has been open to the public ever since. The Family still lives on the 3rd floor away from tourists.

The Children's play house. It has a working fireplace, stove, oven, running water and electricity.  Almost a fully operational house. It just needs a bedroom and a functioning bathroom.

We saw a lot more Dunkin' Donuts (yuk) on the East Coast than Starbucks.

We arrived in Boston later that evening..

Day 9 ~ Mystic, Conneticet

Hi Everyone,
On Day 8 after driving through New York we stopped in Connecticut in a sleepy little town of Mystic. Day 9 turned out to be fairly overcast, but still very humid and hot. The harbor was terrific.

During our exploration we came across this arts and crafts fair that Mystic was hosting. There was hundreds of booths lining all of the major streets selling everything from Paintings and photographs to tin can airplanes to hot dogs and soda. 

This house reminds me of home....

 We went to a local pub for dinner,  we had fish and chips, and clam chowder with cold glasses of water all around. Yum!!

Next we will be on our way to Boston.

Day 8 ~ New York

We stopped on our way to Mystic, Connecticut at Liberty State Park in New Jersey overlooking New York, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty.
