Deutschland ~Part 2

We have been here in Germany for about a week and are now getting ready to go home. Seattle will be very bleak compared to the places we have visited. Saturday is approaching fast!!

On Tuesday we visited the village of Abensberg
We learned about the art of making Weiβbier (white beer) and climbed the Kuchlbauer Turm. The tower was designed by the famed artist Hundretwasser.

The owner of the brewery is an avid art lover and had
Leonardo da Vinci’s
"The Last Supper" recreated upon one of the brewerys Celler Walls.

My sister decided to take home a "doggy-bag". I think she still has some left.

On Wednesday we visited Regensburg and Walhalla
Walhalla was built to commemorate the deeds of the great German figures of the age. The Hall holds the busts of these great people. They include artists, painters, composers, royalty, nuns, and other such dignitaries. Some of the people that are there include Martin Luther, Strauss, Bach, Maria Teresa, Cathrin the Great, Bismark and others.
Walhalla
Can you find Martin Luther?
This is one of our favorite cities to visit. We spent most of our day here exploring the town.

On Thursday we visited München
One of my favorite stops, München just doesn’t seem to get old to me. There is always so much to see.
The Neus Rathaus

München just recently celebrated its 500th birthday. It was built in 1158. Henry the Lion built a bridge over the river Isar next to a monastery to help draw revenue from the salt trade. A town grew up around the bridge to accommodate the merchants. Mönch or in English, Monk, is what they called the city because the city was built next to a monastery.

The Subway in München

The Hofbräuhaus where we had dinner. :)

On Friday we visited a small village about 20km outside Altmannstein.

We had our last farewell dinner with our wonderful hosts. We will be forever grateful to them for opening their home to us.

On Saturday we packed our bags and got back into the Mercedes, said our tearful goodbyes and drove to the München airport.  We are on our way home.

See you all at home,
Jeremy
